Interesting idea, ICM. I will have to look up some data on that as it sounds intriguing. I know that the mothers womb treats the baby as a foreign object, but from what I recall, that treatment is hostile. The immune system is trying to constantly kill it as it is a foreign agent. After the first child, the risk of death in each successive one goes up - the immune system is better tailored for attack. It might be connected? I need to research to be sure.

Beyond that, I agree with you on the attraction thing. I am not attracted to men. I've seen some gay porn in my travels along the internet and it has never turned me on. But a hot female has rarely failed to (unless there is something off about the image - you know, that nagging thing behind your eyes).

Another example of this is Kurt Cobain. Growing up he hated racism and homophobia and particularly the jocks. He said he wished he was gay so that he could drive the homophobic jocks insane by telling them he fucked their fathers and made them swallow his cum or something like that. In spite of this dream he had, he couldn't find men as attractive as women.

I think that I agree with willow, that sexuality is on the scale rather than stuck on the end-points. I also think that I agree with Faith in that women are not exactly discouraged to be into other girls. The fellas often like this. The men on the other hand seem to be very uncomfortable with other men doing this. That is their hang-up I suppose. I for one think that I fall somewhere nearly all the way on the hetero side for whatever reason. I enjoy looking at beautiful women but the only impulse that I get is to occasionally wish I looked like that or just to think "how beautiful she is." The second of those reactions I also get with beautiful men that I are just not my type. Not that I don't like myself as I am but change can be nice to think about. What if I was taller? - for instance.

I agree with the scale concept. I think we may have talked about this in another thread, or maybe it was on the Arrogant Atheist forum. While I don't label myself as bisexual, I am attracted to both women and men. I find myself checking out women with my husband (though we have very different taste, as I am much more picky than he is!). I fantasize more often about women. However, I have never had any kind of sexual experience with a woman, and I probably never will, and that's fine with me. I think that many more women are attracted to the same sex than anyone knows about. And the same is probably true for men.

I think I was looking for a picture of a chimp kicking a human's ass on google images and found a very interesting study in the text below a picture of a shaved chimp image(they are really muscular btw). Basically some people showed male chimps pictures of female chimps and offered food to them at the same time. It took quite some time before the male chimps looked away from the pictures to eat.

They did the same with the female chimps, and the females NEVER passed up food for a picture of a male chimp.

... I guess males simply are not evolved to be as physically attractive as females. Makes sense to me.

This is true for humans, (and chimps if the experiment you described is accurate), but in many other species of animal, the opposite is true. Take birds for example, males are usually the ones who endeavour to attract a female. What you are saying is basically that there is a selection pressure on females (in the case of humans and possibly chimps) to evolve to become more attractive to males, while in other species, like birds, the selection pressure is exerted on males to become more attractive to females.

Evidential convergence----->FTW!!!

If it's true for peacocks and other birds, then it's true for me. My hair spreads like a peacocks feathers in the wind and glistens in the sun. Female chimps would easily give up their food to take a good look a picture of me.
