G.I. Joe, He-Man, and Transformers all had something in common (no not USAA propaganda, that's just G.I. Joe). Answer: they were all elaborate advertising for Hasbro and Mattel toys!

Thundercats was also a ad for toys, most us based kids tv is. One thing the UK has going for it the children's tv is very good.

Most kids shows in the U.S. are definitely based on advertising. Except Thundarr and D&D dammit! 8-)
I can't speak for 80s U.K. kid's shows since I'm way too young ( ), but In the Night Garden has the most melancholy intro ever:

Battlestar Galactica, the original:

Nevermind the pre-music part spoke by Patrick Macnee (that came much later in the series).

Captain Planet LMAO!!!

I remember that show. Great idea really, but lame plots. Its partly thanks to shows like these that people have become more involved with recycling and general environment issues.

I remember one episode where all the planeteers get new weapons except for "heart", who gets kinda emo about it. CP tells the kid "you dont need a better weapon because heart is already the greatest force". LMAO!!!
