Odd music from beginning to end... and insanely good (its supposed to be an egyptian-ish theme):

Mega Man 2 is the best of the series for two reasons: playability and soundtrack.

Again all three released by Capcom.

Vectorman really pushed the boundaries of what the Sega Genesis could do in all areas. It also had one really impressive soundtrack made up simple well-composed techno tracks.

Though the audio of S.T.A.L.K.E.R SOC was mainly focused on helping you shit yourself (which I nearly did during my first encounter with a controller, lots of little imp things...) and general immersion, It did have a few gems that played on in-game radios.

Sounds a little like an acoustic Epica. Not bad.

The actual lyrics are a bit...interesting.

Miraculous crystal (The Wish Granter)
Given by stars
I can foresee the future
In fabulous glass
Lie spilt on the caves
Mock scribbled on us
Earth’s doom day is close

Dancing on the ashes of the world
I behold the stars
Heavy gale is blowing to my face
Rising up the dust
Barren lands are desperate to blossom
Dark stars strive to shine
I still remember the blue ocean In this dying world

The seas overdumped
The rivers are dead
All planet’s cities turned a deserted land
Annihilation declares its day
Life slowly Utters me “remain”

Dirge for the planet
Dirge for the Earth

Dirge for the planet
Dirge for the Earth

Dancing on the ashes of the world
I behold the stars
Heavy gale is blowing to my face
Rising up the dust Barren lands are desperate to blossom
Dark stars strive to shine
still remember the blue ocean In this dying world

The series that turned mainstream music into videogame music (or is it the other way around?).

Very Clever, I am surprised this is the first mention of GTA on this post, From Vice City onwards the sound tracks have been awesome.
One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know", Alice answered. "Then", said the cat, "It doesn't matter.”

Maybe so, but they lost a lot tradition. GTA had an awesome soundtrack because it had a large library of chart-toppers. Its no surprise that with CD (and later DVD) technology, games would adopt industry standard sound.

If it took that long to get GTA here, its because other threads have GTA already. This thread is more about traditional video-game sound like this:

GTA sound is mainstream music, divided up into various virtual radio stations. This entire forum is it's cradle. And that's why i thought i'd mention it with a Lego spoof. GTA is not video game music. It is an open ended game featuring a few of real life's commodities, such as radio.

This is the hardest game i've ever played. The graphics were excellent, the sound amazing, and the custimization was awesome. But even with a Mecha that repairs itself over time, I could not get past level (i was 10, perhaps i could get to level 4 or maybe even 5 nowadays). The Music was really well done as well:
